What is GST return filing?
Businesses registered under GST have to file GST returns monthly, quarterly, and annually based on the nature and activity of the business. While
filing GST Returns, complete and accurate details of sale or purchase of any goods and/or services along with the tax collected/paid during these
transactions must be provided.
GST Return Filing requires filing a minimum of the following forms: returns for supplies provided, returns for purchases made, monthly returns, and
annual returns.
GST Return Filing is mandatory for all the entities (individual or company) that have a valid GST registration. Irrespective of the sales generated, profits made, revenue incurred, expenses carried out are during the period of filing GST returns, an entity with GST registration must file GST Returns within respective due date. Even a dormant business that has no revenue/costs and is completely inactive but has a valid GST registration must file Nil GST Returns.Types of GST Registration

Due dates for GST return Filing
GSTR 1: The 11th of the subsequent month
GSTR 3B: The 20th of the subsequent month
CMP 08: 18th of the month succeeding the quarter
GSTR 4: 18th of the month succeeding the quarter
GSTR 5: 20th of the subsequent month
GSTR 6: 13th of the subsequent month
GSTR 7: 10th of the subsequent month
GSTR 8: 10th of the subsequent month
GSTR 9: 31st December of the Fiscal year
GSTR 10: Within 3 months of the date of cancellation or the date of cancellation order whichever is earlier.
GSTR 11: 28th of the subsequent month

GST Return Penalties
If a party is late to file GST returns, they will be charged with Late Fee. A Late Fee means that the party will be charged a penalty of Rs. 100/day under CGST and Rs.100/day under SGST which means a total of Rs.200 a day for the total number of days defaulted. In addition to the total late fee, an interest of 18% on the total late fee has to be paid per annum.
If a party is not paying taxes or is making short payments towards taxes then they must pay a penalty of 10% of the amount of tax.
